Background checks

Avoid costly recruitment oversights

Imagine that your organisation is about to recruit for a leadership position. A strong candidate applies, and the resume is fitting. However, shortly after hiring, it becomes clear that the individual does not possess the required competencies and the resume is embellished. This is just one scenario where a background check can save your organisation time, money, and reputational damage.

The purpose of a background check or vetting is to verify a person’s or a company’s background, so that you can make informed decisions.

Verifying a CV and profile

Vetting a CV and profile can uncover concerns in a candidate’s, supplier’s, or partner’s profile that may be incompatible with your company’s values and policies. Vetting can also help reduce the risk of confidential information and other critical data ending up in the wrong hands.

In accordance with GDPR and locally applicable laws and guidelines, DBI conducts background checks on prospective employees, suppliers, partners, etc. Among other things, we verify the accuracy of the CV, connections to business registration numbers, presence on watchlists, and any connections to convicted criminals, known incidents like embezzlement, and tax evasion both domestically and internationally.

The EU's new CER directive requires background checks
The CER directive aims to strengthen the resilience of critical infrastructure in the EU. CER ensures that essential sectors can withstand and respond to various crises, thereby protecting society and maintaining continuity in vital services and functions. With the implementation of the CER directive, background checks will transition from being a recommendation to a requirement for many companies that are subject to the directive’s provisions. Article 14 of the directive mandates that companies conduct background checks on all employees working with critical infrastructure. DBI can help your company comply with this requirement.

You can read more about the CER directive here.

We tailor the verification service to your needs. The service is scalable and can be expanded to include e.g. social media and digital footprint.

Verification of education and employment history

Understanding the candidate’s financial background and connections

Risk management related to recruitment processes and information security

Objective and efficient investigation

As an unbiased third party, DBI does not consider whether or not the candidate is coveted by the organisation, which might cause recruiters to overlook concerning issues. We present a report and leave any decisions regarding employment to you and your organisation.

Minimise data, resource, and reputation loss

A background check from DBI can reduce the risk of information leaks from an insider. E.g. hiring a person who passes confidential data to a competitor or foreign state. You can also avoid unnecessary costs associated with salary, termination, and a new recruitment process caused by early dismissal of a new hire, who exaggerated their CV. This protects your organisation’s reputation, which can be damaged by obvious hiring mistakes and espionage scandals.
