Session title: Adoption of green fuels on passenger ships - retrofits and new builds
Are you interested in learning more about green fuels on passenger vessels from a fire-safety point of view? Then don’t miss out on this panel discussion at SMM with one of our maritime experts!
The panelists will discuss the usage of green fuels on passenger vessels from a fire-safety point of view.
How to create more fire safety in the design phase, how to train crew for usage of green fuels and how to find the right solutions for fire extinguishing onboard?
The session will shed light on cooperation between ship owners and ship designers when adapting passenger ships to future fuels.

»At its heart, it's all about people.«
Carsten Møller explored why innovative and holistic fire safety strategies are necessary given the rise of novel fuels and ship designs. With the introduction of new, alternative fuels comes an array of new risks and fire scenarios.
This suggests that the current SOLAS-approved equipment and established strategies may no longer suffice. Already, a variety of solutions are appearing for fuel mixtures and diverse ship designs, indicating that a 'one size fits all' approach to fire safety is impractical.
“At its heart, it's all about people – their actions, involvement, communication, prejudices, decision-making, and perception of safety – from the designers to the operators. All these elements need to be factored into fire strategies.” - Carsten Møller
