Disaster

The aim of the project was to develop a data model to help the emergency services to communicate better. The project focused on communication and symbols exchanged on maps. For example, the symbol for fire can vary from country to country.

"Translation" of symbols helps the emergency services to have a common picture of the incident (Common Operational Picture). This picture is important as it makes it possible for the emergency services to react more quickly, and can therefore save more lives and limit financial costs.

DBI's primary task was to intermediate the results, but also to gather information from the emergency services in Denmark, so that the data model can also be used there.

DBI was also responsible for developing a virtual program to show that the data model works. The program also helps the emergency services and other operators to test their communication skills.

Disaster The project ran from: 1 February 2012 to 1 January 2015
