DBI CERTIFICATION OPENS UK OFFICE

Published: 09.03.21

DBI Certification has opened its UK based office in Gloucestershire, England.

DBI Certification UK will have a dedicated representative and we will host a new UK based website. We are planning intensively for the upcoming opening but in case you already have questions or just need detailed information on future certification for approaching the UK market we are ready to advise you.

For your information, we expect to be an approved body for UKCA certification in time for our clients to be able to market their products in the UK.

One of the most important takeaways from the UK government’s guidance for manufacturers with DBI Certification approved products is that you will not be required to have the UKCA mark on day one and will be able to continue using the CE marking in Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland) until 31 December, 2021. The guidance clearly states that if your product requires third-party conformity assessment and it was carried out by an EU recognized notified body that you will be able to continue using the CE mark until the end of 2021.

It is important to underline that you should plan for full implementation of the new UK certification schemes to be ready as soon as possible after January 2021. The new UK certification scheme is in line with the EU certification scheme. DBI Certification UK will accept already approved products by DBI Certification tested under the EU test program.

Below please also find a link to the updated guidance from the UK government’s Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. The new guidance provides useful information on how and who needs the UKCA mark from 1 January, 2021. We will be happy to discuss the many complex details with you to clarify any uncertainties.

It appears from the above that “You need to use a conformity mark if you’re placing certain goods on the UK market. From 1 January 2021, the UKCA mark will be the conformity assessment marking for Great Britain for most goods currently subject to CE marking. The CE marking will be accepted in the UK until 1 January 2022 for certain products. You must be ready to use the UKCA marking from 1 January 2022 at the latest, although you should look to use the UKCA marking as soon as possible.”

A second important takeaway for businesses outside the UK. Great Britain does not recognize authorized representatives and responsible persons based in the EU. If you need to (or choose to) use an authorized representative or responsible person, they will need to be based in the UK for products being placed on the GB market.
