DBI - The Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology - is one of Europe’s most modern and high-tech institutes for all aspects of fire safety and security. We work globally, and our test reports are recognized worldwide by classification societies, Notified Bodies, US Coast Guard, the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and the Russian River Register.
At DBI we help our customers get new products to the market for the maritime sector, both easier and more cost effectively. We carry out almost all types of fire testing of materials, components, and structures for the maritime sector.
With over 350 employees, we have many competent experts with access to DBI’s nearly 100 years of experience in fire testing, which guarantees the safety, security and high quality of our customers’ products.
Our 3000 square meter headquarter, located only 20 minutes away from Copenhagen airport, houses a modern fire laboratory with various furnaces for almost all types of fire tests.
DBI carries out a wide range of classification tests of materials, components and structures for the maritime sector. We are accredited for fire testing by DANAK (the Danish Accreditation Fund) in accordance with DS/EN ISO/IEC 17025: 2017 and have a labelling permit from ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation). All classification tests are made in accordance with the IMO 2010 FTP Code and, as a unique opportunity, we can issue accredited assessment reports.

DBI is involved in Danish , European and international standardization work. Through these forums we influence standards concerning fire protection and fire extinguishing.
Danish Standards
Representatives from DBI sit on several standardization committees under Danish Standards (DS) . We influence developments concerning reaction and resistance to fire, and automatic fire extinguishing systems.
European Standards
DBI is represented in a number of committees under the "Comité Européen De Normalization" (CEN), where work is being carried out to introduce common standards in the European Union. Many are already applied and more are on their way.
International Standards
DBI is also involved in international standardization work, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO) , where guidelines, for fire requirements applicable to ships and their interior, are set.
Access to the market with classification testing
DBI cooperates with, among others, DBI Certification A/S, which is an independent international certification body (Notified Body) within both the maritime and construction industries. This makes it possible for us to be your partner throughout the entire process, from idea to market-ready product.
With a successful classification test and completed test report, your product is ready for certification and introduction to the market.
