Hot work - fire prevention measures for roofing

Course number: AMU605
Each year, fires occur during roofing, welding, cutting, grinding, soldering, drying, heating, weed burning, and other forms of hot work. These fires should not happen, as with careful consideration and the right knowledge, it is possible to make hot work fire-safe.

In this course, participants will learn how to plan and perform hot work safely. The participant will be able to carry out roofing work correctly from a fire safety perspective and assess potential hazards and the necessary safety measures that must be taken when performing hot work.

Roofing typically involves the use of a gas torch to bond roofing felt to the roof structure. Therefore, roofing is a type of hot work that requires meticulous preparation and constant attention to safety. In this course, you will learn about the hazards and safety measures related to roofing so that dangerous fires can be avoided.

Participants who successfully complete the training receive a qualification certificate. A hot work certificate is also issued, which is valid for 5 years throughout the Nordic region. The certificate is valid in Denmark, Norway and Finland, where this course is required to perform hot work. The course also follows CFPA Europe’s training programme and CFPA Guideline No. 12.

Target group

The course is aimed at anyone working with roofing or other tasks on roofs.

Practical fire extinguishing exercises are included in the course. Therefore, we recommend practical footwear and clothing.

The course concludes with a multiple-choice test, which must be passed to receive the DBI certificate and the AMU course diploma.
