Emergency and Evacuation drills

Conduct drills to gain skills

Drills are essential to ensure that an emergency management plan is operational and that employees are prepared to fulfil their roles when an incident occurs. DBI offers to organise, conduct, and evaluate emergency management exercises and drills, as well as corporate training in areas such as firefighting and first aid.

Assessing needs and opportunities

To ensure a focused drill or exercise, the process with DBI typically begins with a needs analysis that underpins the operational work with the emergency management or evacuation exercise/drill. The needs analysis also works to align expectations with you and your company. In this way, we ensure that the exercise/drill is proportional to your needs, and we achieve the desired outcome. We typically start with a planning meeting and then develop the exercise/drill design. This creates the best conditions for the exercise/drill. Then, we analyse any existing emergency management and related plans, practical frameworks, and physical conditions.

Before the exercise/drill, we inform relevant authorities to the extent that it is necessary.

Execution of drills

Depending on the type of exercise/drill—from a simple evacuation drill to a complex emergency management exercise—and your company's preferences, DBI can take on different roles, from initial advisory and facilitation to acting as the drill captain. If you have the resources and competencies to handle most of the activities yourself, we are happy to participate as observers and provide an evaluation after the drill is completed.

It is important to turn learning into action

In addition to the training element of an emergency management exercise/drill, it is important to gather learnings in a way that allows you to improve your emergency management set-up. Therefore, DBI typically prepares a report with feedback on the exercise/drill. The written report is based on any agreed fix points and knowledge from past incidents. It also evaluates employee behaviour compared to internal procedures and the physical conditions on the day of the exercise/drill. The evaluation concludes with DBI's recommendations for improvements.
