The aim of the project is to develop an extensive, useful and inexpensive fire testing method with related apparatus, for façade systems. The test will give a performance-based assessment, will be easy to export all over Europe (ideally the world) in terms of legislation, and will also be versatile, so that any façade system can be tested in it, although the main focus will be on external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS). One objective is to use the test for calibration concerning the numerical modelling in relation to the postdoc project.
The project seeks to create a system that can replace full-scale trials. If the system can succeed at European level, it would be highly beneficial for façade producers throughout Europe.

The façade testing system will help to improve DBI's knowledge of the fire behaviour of façade systems – with focus on ETICS. The project will yield experience and increase knowledge of this area, which is an advantage for the further development of façade testing systems, e.g. mathematical models to predict the results of full-scale façade trials.
The project is undertaken as a postdoc in collaboration with Lund University.
