Battery fire safety

Research and consultancy performed by experts

The presence of batteries continues to grow in society as they are integrated into an increasing variety of products such as electric cars and e-bikes. This also increases the risk of battery fires, which are complicated to extinguish - and may cause an explosion.

At DBI - The Danish Institute of Fire and Security Technology – we are dedicated to gaining new knowledge about battery fires and explosions. We use our knowledge to evaluate the existing strategies for fighting battery fires and make recommendations for safe design, placement, handling and use of batteries. Based on our research, we offer a range battery-related services:

  • Risk assessment
  • Fire safety evaluation
  • Simulation and modelling
  • Small-scale fire testing
  • Full-scale fire testing
  • Fire investigation

Please contact Battery Program Manager Agata Gallas-Hulin for a talk on how DBI can assist you.
