Indicative fire tests with the Electrical Furnace can be combined with computer simulations, which can contribute to a more effective product development process.
Neither small-scale tests nor computer simulations can replace a classification fire tests.
However, both methods can save you from wrong construction choices and give you a better idea of when to invest in a full-scale fire test.
The Infrared Machine Vision (IMV) technology has been developed by experts at DBI in order to detect changes in material and construction behaviours when exposed to fire. This is possible by using an infrared camera placed above the tested sample.
While typical performance of specimens is assessed using thermocouples which only measure in a localized area, the information from the camera offers a significantly more detailed overview. The data recorded by the camera helps identify areas of the sample that heat up during the test, making it possible for producers to pinpoint critical areas that could lead to costly failures.
